Identifying Contrast
- WARM LIGHT OF THE STREETLAMPS, COOL LIGHT OF THE MOON This contrast creates a bold transaction between the city and nature.
- URBAN STREETLIGHT AND PAVEMENT, NATURAL TREES AND WATER Once again there is a border between the urban area and the natural area, the warm colors on the cold colors make the boundary very evident.
- ORGANIC LINES AND SHAPES IN NATURAL PARTS, STRAIGHT HARSH LINES IN THE INDUSTRIAL PARTS This makes the nature side look more calming and the urban side more vivid.
- BLURRED REFLECTION, DETAILED ACTUAL OBJECTS This lets the viewers focus on the people who are walking instead, it also accentuates the fact that it is raining.
- INTENSE COLORS ADD CONTRAST (WARM COLORS AND COOL COLORS) The artist used these colors with the intention of creating contrast and hopefully getting the viewers to understand the intended purpose of this piece.
Elements Of Art
- Shape - The triangles of the umbrella and circle of the moon among the quadrilateral shaped trees show blocks of color that stand out and creating minor contrast to the gradient backgrounds. This creates a rather ethereal feel to the painting.
- Form- the lines and shading of the pavement, the people, water, lights and trees create a 3D effect that makes the painting realistic.
- Value - The different values of each hue are used to show dimension. A good example of this is the pink umbrella coloring to show the shape and the reflection of the streetlights.
- Space - The painting is divided diagonally through the contrasting warm and cool colors. The divided parts of the painting draw your eyes into the focal point of the painting, the couple.
- Intensity - all colors are very vibrant and intense allowing them to contrast each other without overpowering the other.
- Perspective - lamp posts and trees get smaller and smaller as they fade into the background.
- Lines - Lamp posts and trees to add detail, outlining to make certain objects, like the umbrellas, stand out.
- Hues - many different colors and gradients in all of the different parts of the painting.
- Texture- shiny rainy walkway, moonlit rippling water, clothing texture, metal shiny lamp posts, and rough tree bark.
Lines - The lines are a mix of both organic and inorganic that contrast from one another and help increase the contrast in the two themes of the painting. Hues - The warm and cool colors contrast and show the difference between the park setting and the urban walkways and streetlights and the two sides. Texture- The textures of each part of the painting are very different. The shiny walkways and water contrast with the matte leaves and bark in the trees accenting the different contrasting sections of the painting. |
